PreK–12 Career & Technical Education

Hands-on, minds-on technical learning connected to career and community — for every student, every grade.

Throughout the year, students design, build, test, and reflect — applying academics to real materials and tools. A sampling of recent projects:

Projects

SeaPerch submersible remote operated vehicle (or ROV) being assembled by students at the St. George School.

Grades 6-8

SeaPerch ROVs

Students build underwater remotely operated vehicles, exploring buoyancy, waterproofing, and simple circuits before testing them in the water.

Grade 5

Rainforest Canopy Bridges

An early-grades engineering challenge: design and build model canopy bridges that can carry a load across a span.

Grade 1

Makers’ Market

Students design, produce, price, and sell their own products — a hands-on lesson in entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Grade 6

LEGO Robotics

Students program and iterate on robots, blending mechanical design with computational thinking.

Automata

Mechanical sculptures driven by cams and linkages that turn drawings into moving, hand-cranked machines.

Buddy Benches

A woodworking project that builds measuring and assembly skills while promoting kindness and inclusion on the playground.

Grade 8

Wooden Boat Designs

A nod to St. George’s boatbuilding heritage — students design and model small wooden vessels, learning hull shape and craftsmanship.

Community

Tradeswomen of Maine

Visits and demonstrations introduce students to women working across the skilled trades and the pathways into them.

Grade 5

Drone Project · Sebago Technics

In partnership with an engineering firm, students build and fly drones and get an introduction to surveying and mapping.
